Worth writing about
- A calculation looks wrong. This is the most useful message you can send. Include the figures you entered and what you expected — the numbers stay in your browser, so I cannot see them unless you tell me. Better still, copy the page URL, which carries your inputs.
- Something is unclear. If a label sent you to the wrong line on a statement, that is a defect in the tool, not in you.
- A rule or threshold has changed. Underwriting ceilings, typical origination fees and promotional structures all move. Corrections with a source are always welcome.
- A route we do not model. Hardship programmes, non-profit debt management plans and issuer-specific quirks are the areas where a real example teaches me the most.
What I cannot help with
I cannot review your file, tell you whether you will be approved, advise you on whether to accept a specific offer, negotiate with a creditor, or recommend a lender, card or dealer. I am not licensed to do any of that, and I would be no good at it.
If you need someone who can look at your whole position: for debt, a non-profit credit counselling agency accredited by the NFCC or FCAA will give you a free budget review. For a mortgage, a loan officer at a bank or credit union will run your actual file through automated underwriting, which is the only answer that counts. For tax questions about forgiven debt, an enrolled agent or CPA.
Lenders, brokers and debt companies
I do not sell advertising placements, sponsored positions, "partner" listings, calculator white-labelling or leads, so please do not ask. If your product genuinely wins on the numbers, the calculator will already say so.
